It?s that time of year again in Kentucky.? One day the snow is falling and it?s cold and the next it?s?50 degrees.? Extremely frustrating time to plan a fishing trip.? You just try to take advantage of the good days and hope they fall on a weekend that you?re free.? Usually by the end of February I?m so fed up with the weather and desperate to go fishing, that even bad days are good days to go.? I?m sure you have all been in that same boat.
In January, my family and I?wrapped up a great fishing trip to Florida that we took over the Christmas break.? I also got a great smallmouth trip to Lake Cumberland under my belt.? On the 12th of January, Anglers Outpost & Marine hosted seminars during their open house that featured Bassmaster Elite Series Pro?s Boyd Duckett, Bradley Roy, Todd Faircloth, Greg Vinson and Keith Monson.? This weeked, the Lexington Sports Boat and Recreation Show was in town.? Taking advantage of these events and spending time with the professionals of the sport only serves to do one thing for me.? It makes me ready to hit the water and get some fishing in.
I would like to thank Elite Series angler Bill Lowen for the time he spent talking to my wife and I yesterday at the boat show.? After listening to his seminar on swim jigs, I approached Bill to ask a question and the guy spent 30 minutes with us breaking down his favorite techniques and colors for a swim jig.? Information I?m keeping to myself by the way.? What hit me in profound way as I was leaving the boat show, is that here?s a guy in a professional sport that is at the top of his game.? He finished the 2012 season 9th in Toyota Tundra Angler of Year points and qualified for his 5th Bassmaster Classic.? In 8 days, he?s making the trip to Oklahoma to fish?in?his 5th Classic, and he just spent a half hour breaking down swim jigs for me and my wife.? What a great sport to be involved with and even better sportmen and women carrying the flag.
I?m sure as the next few weeks pain stakingly crawl by, I?m going to re-spool every reel I own, sharpen every hook, and grease every moving part getting ready for the upcoming year.? I look forward to the successes and even the defeats that the new year will bring.??Get out this winter and spend some time visiting with your local dealers and tackle shops.? Help support their businesses so they can continue to support you.
