Yasir Hameed still optimistic about reviving his international career ? Cricket News Update

Yasir Hameed, the stylish right-handed batsman from Pakistan, has revealed that he has not performed up to the mark in the on-going President?s Trophy due to his mother?s illness but vows to make a return to the national team very soon.

The 34-year-old cricketer is a true product of Pakistan?s domestic cricket, making his first-class debut in 1996/97 and performing exceptionally well for multiple seasons before making his way to international cricket in 2003.

Hameed represented the Green Shirts in 25 Tests and 56 One Day Internationals (ODIs), scoring more than 3500 runs at the ultimate level of the game, with the help of five centuries. The right-handed top-order batsman registered tons in each innings of his Test debut against Bangladesh at the National Stadium, Karachi.

However, some inconsistent performances led to Hameed?s ouster from the Pakistan team. The cricketer from Peshawar was given a chance to revive his international career during the tour of England in 2010, but the batsman was dropped once again because of a controversial secret interview to the News of the World.

Yasir has been doing brilliantly in domestic cricket since then but is yet to regain the trust of the Pakistan Cricket Board.

In the current season however, the ZTBL cricketer has looked off-colour, failing to score a single half-century. While talking to Pakpassion, the Peshawar batsman revealed that his mother has not been well of late, which distracted him.

?I?m trying to stay in form but due to my mother?s illness I have experienced some stress over the last month. Therefore, I haven?t been able to pick up my form over this period,? he mentioned. ?She?s better now but due to this I haven?t been able to focus on the President?s Trophy as I?d like to have done.?

Hameed is hoping that the selectors will consider him for the upcoming tours of India and South Africa, taking into account the right-hander?s brilliant first-class record.

?They could take a look at me and although I haven?t been scoring runs this season, I have been scoring runs for many years on the domestic circuit and have nearly 10,000 first-class runs,? the batsman added.
