??? Sonora resident Beverley Diane Arends died July 23 at Doctors Hospital in Modesto. She was 71.
??? Born in San Jose, she grew up in Northern California and worked at OK Lumber in the Bay Area before getting married and becoming a homemaker.
??? She enjoyed raising birds, quilting, traveling with her husband and shopping with her daughter.
??? Mrs. Arends is survived by her husband of 45 years, Wally Arends, of Sonora; children Eric and wife Jennifer Arends, of Woodside, and Kerry Arends, of Sonora; and grandchildren, Ava and Scott Arends, both of Woodside, and Jordan Arends, of Sonora.
??? A celebration of life is scheduled for a later date.
??? The Neptune Society of Central California in Modesto is handling arrangements.
Joan Ellen Cole

??? Arnold resident Joan Ellen Cole died Aug. 2 at Avalon Care Center in Sonora. She was 81.
??? Born in Los Angeles, she worked as a teachers aide for 32 years, 22 of which were at Bret Harte High School in Angels Camp.
??? She was a member of the Chapel in the Pines Church in Arnold and was its Sunday School superintendent for many years.
??? She enjoyed working in her yard.
??? Mrs. Cole is survived by her husband, David Cole, of Arnold; children, Frank Cole and Dorothy Ratto, both of Arnold; siblings, Pat Turner, of Murphys, Margaret Greenwood, of Riverside, and Daniel Anderson, of Florida; and one grandchild.
??? A celebration of life is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday at the Chapel in the Pines Church in Arnold.
??? A private burial will be held at the Buena Vista Cemetery in Murphys.
??? Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

??? Tuolumne resident Bryan Costa died Aug. 3 at his home. He was 52.
??? Born in Modesto to Jack and Joyce Costa, he grew up in Newman.
??? He enjoyed fishing and playing baseball when he was younger.
??? Mr. Costa is survived by his parents, Jack and Joyce Costa, of Sugar Pine; and siblings, Patricia Wall, of Valley Springs, and Gregory Costa, of Modesto.
??? A private family service is scheduled.
??? Interment will be at the Hills Ferry Cemetery in Newman.
